  • Sandpaper – 800 grit
  • Wood filler (if needed)
  • Paint Brushes

  1. Protect your working surface.
  2. Prepare and paint the first coat on the wooden blank.
  3. Make sure the paint is dry before continuing.
  4. Apply a layer of Crazy Crack medium (this dries transparent). Hold against the light to assess coverage.
  5. Allow to dry. The shine will disappear. Drying time varies depending on working conditions.
  6. The base coat of paint will be visible through the Crazy Cracks.
  7. Once dry, apply a coat of the contrasting colour. Paint in one direction only and try not to overlap the paint strokes. The amount of paint on the brush will determine the size of the cracks. Thick paint = large cracks; less paint = smaller cracks.
  8. Allow the paint to dry and let the cracks finish formng.
  9. Apply a coat or two of Dala Clear Varnish or Dala Deco Varnish.
  10. A picture may be decoupaged on for further effect.

Don't use images cut directly from magazines. The print on the reverse side will show through and ruin the effect. Photocopy or scanned and lazer printed images are the best. Inkjet images are water soluble and won't work either.

Do not use wax or plastic coated paper as Podge and Varnish will not adhere to these. Use gift wrap paper or real decoupage paper which may be purchased in sheet form. Thin or fragile paper may be strengthened by apply a few coats of Dala Podge. Apply this before cutting the picture out and make sure that the Podge is dry first.

Paper that is too thin will let the base colour show through. You may or may not want to use this fas a special effect.
