Here we will be showing you how to create mussel shell Daisies with a few simple steps, and this process is a good foundation for allowing further exploration and creating what you wish.
We'll be using Dala Craft Paint which is a quality art product that is popular amongst artists and crafters. Dala Craft Paint can be used on stones, unglazed pottery, concrete, plaster, clay items, plastic, metal and much more.
6 open undamaged black mussel shells (to split into 2)
6 Jar lids to use as a painting support base
4 50ml jars of Dala Craft Paint (code CP)
Small piece of fine sandpaper for cleaning the shells.
Paint brushes
Jar of water to clean brushes
Small amount of reusable putty
Collect your shells off the shores of Cape Town – 6 shells per 2 daisies, so collect as many as you will need. Carefully separate the shells and sort into left and right halves. Wash, clean and allow shells to dry, while being careful to not damage each one. Select either 6 left or 6 right shells of roughly the same size for your first daisy. You must use only left or only right for each daisy – a right half shell will not fit in correctly with left half shell.
Use 6 jar lids as a base onto which you can secure the half shells with a small piece of tic-tac (one lid for each shell). This makes it easier to rotate and paint the shells.
Give each shell a white coat of Dala Craft Paint which allows the final colour to be bright. Once the coat is dry, select a colour from Dala's wide range of Craft Paints for your daisy and paint each half shell (it may require 3 coats). The colour chosen here was Dala Craft Paint CP10 – violet (photo 3). When the final coat of paint is dry, brighten your shell further with a coat of Dala Podge or Dala deco varnish.

Now arrange the painted petals in a circle and glue together with a glue gun. You can also glue a washer onto the back of the petals in order to allow you to hang it or glue it to a surface.
For the flower centre, use a small round rock or cut a champagne cork to the correct size. Stick this also on a jar lid to paint and glue to the front of the daisy once dry.
