In this Dala DIY tutorial we will be showing you how to make Dala Xmas Owls to decorate your home during the festive season . The Owls also make wonderful Christmas gifts for family and friends. We hope you enjoy this DIY tutorial.
⦁ 250ml Dala Podge
⦁ 50ml pot of Dala Red craft paint – CP1
⦁ 50ml pot of Dala White craft paint – CP 21
⦁ 50ml pot of Dala Dove Grey paint –CP 32
⦁ A wooden base plate
⦁ 2 smooth shaped pebbles.
⦁ Jar of water to clean your brushes.
⦁ 2 Jam jar lids to secure your pebbles for painting ( the owls)
⦁ A stick on which the owls will perch
Using fine sand paper, sand the front of the base to a smooth finish. You can now paint or varnish the base to suit yourself either with the wide range of Dala colours or varnishes. The base can also be stained. Once stained or painted, dot the base with white “snowflakes “. Use Podge to seal the base and give it a bright shiny finish. Paint or stain the stick on which the owls will perch and glue this in place on the base plate. At this stage it would be a good idea to drill a small hole in the back of the base so that it could be hung up with a small nail knocked into the wall or door.
You now secure your two pebbles / owls to a jam jar lid with a small bit of poster putty.
This will allow you to easily paint the owls while rotating them in your hand.
We have used mainly red and dove grey craft paint but you can, of course, choose which ever color you like from the wide range of Dala Craft paint colours. Once the paint is dry, coat with a final layer of Dala Podge, after which you can glue a small colorful pom-pom to the top of the owls beanie.
